Android 8+ · two classes only
Fire and smoke detection that runs where the camera already is.
A 3.3 MB YOLOv8n model runs on your handset's CPU. When it sees fire or smoke, it texts your emergency contact with the GPS pin. Nothing is uploaded. There is nothing to install but the app.
- Nothing uploaded
- Works offline
- Signed release build
What it does
Four jobs, done on the phone.
- Detects
- Two classes only, fire and smoke. A focused model does one job better than a general one.
- Alerts
- SMS to one number you choose, with the phone's GPS pin. Works on any carrier, needs no app on the receiving end.
- Keeps quiet
- Frames never leave the handset. Firebase stores your alert log, not your camera. See the trust boundary
- Lets you override
- Smell smoke before the camera sees it? Hold the red button for a second and a half.
How it works
Three steps, no server in the middle.
-
STEP 01
The phone looks
The camera feed goes straight into the TFLite interpreter. No upload, no round trip, no waiting on a signal.
-
STEP 02
The model decides
Boxes above your confidence threshold become detections, each one labelled fire or smoke with a score you can see.
-
STEP 03
Somebody is told
If you do not acknowledge it, the alert escalates by SMS to your emergency contact with your coordinates attached.
On the phone
The whole interface.
Two screens, taken from the build on this page. The detector runs on the handset, so what you see is what the phone is doing, not a mock-up.
The honest caveat: candles, cigarettes and steam scored high enough to trigger on an earlier build and still need re-testing. The sensitivity threshold is adjustable in Settings.
Get the app
Point it at a room. See what it does.
Android 8 and up. Detection works without an account; signing in only adds log sync across your devices.
Recommended. Sign in with the Google account you were added with, tap Accept, then install from the Play Store. Until the store listing is finished the app appears under the temporary name com.scc.aquascout (unreviewed). That is the same app.
The same 1.56 build, sideloaded. No
Google account needed. Your browser will ask once, the first
time, to allow installs from it. Installing this way does
not register you as a Play tester.
Already installed it from Google Play? Uninstall that one
first. Play signs its build with its own key, so Android
refuses to install one over the other.

To send an SMS alert, paste your Semaphore API key into Settings first. Without it the detector still runs and logs detections, but no message is ever sent.
